Van Drew Renews Call for Trenton to Make Good on Cost of Living Adjustments to New Jersey State Pensions
February 20, 2026 — United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew released the following statement reiterating his support of Cost Of Living Adjustments, better known as COLAs, for New Jersey’s retired public employees.
“While members of the United States Congress do not get to vote on legislation before the Governor and the New Jersey State Legislature in Trenton, I have always believed it’s important to make my voice heard on the issues that affect our mutual constituents just as I have and will continue to when it comes to state policies that are driving up energy prices,” said United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew. “Governor Murphy increased state spending by nearly 70% during his eight years in office and found a way to fund a number of state benefits for illegal aliens, but never made good on the state’s commitment to restore the Cost Of Living Adjustments, or COLAs, retirees were promised. I am calling on Governor Sherrill and our legislative leaders in Trenton to right this wrong as they negotiate the state budget for the current fiscal year.”
