Van Drew Opposes Senate Proposal That Would Impact Medicaid

June 16, 2025 — Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement in response to a Senate proposal that would reduce how much states like New Jersey can collect to support Medicaid.

“This provision is a nonstarter for me if it makes its way back to the House,” said Congressman Van Drew. “I have always stood for cutting waste, and fraud, and making sure taxpayer dollars are not going to anyone who should not be getting them, especially illegal immigrants. But the way this plan is written could unintentionally hurt the people Medicaid is meant to help. The president has been clear he does not want cuts to Medicare or Medicaid, and I agree. I am open to reforms that do not impact the eligible Americans who rely on these programs, but I will not support any proposal that puts critical care for the people of South Jersey at risk.”
