VAN DREW ANNOUNCES VINELAND TO RECEIVE $20 MILLION GRANT

February 1, 2023 — Congressman Van Drew announced that Vineland, New Jersey will be receiving a $20 million Department of Transportation (DOT) Safe Streets implementation grant that will go towards safety improvements and the rehabilitation of Chestnut Avenue.

“This grant is wonderful news for the city of Vineland – this funding is necessary to ensure that roads are safe for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles,” said Congressman Van Drew. “I am proud of the work we accomplished in order to secure this funding and I look forward to continuing this important work for South Jersey through my service on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.”

“I want to thank Congressman Jeff Van Drew for his work in support of Vineland’s Safe Streets and Roads For All grant application to improve safety on Chestnut Avenue between Main Road and Delsea Drive,” Mayor Anthony Fanucci said.  “Congressman Van Drew has consistently been a strong advocate for the Vineland community in Washington, and we truly appreciate his willingness to help with this project.  The work required is substantial, which without this grant would place a severe financial burden on Vineland taxpayers.  Although final details for the project are still being considered, there is no doubt that this investment will improve traffic, biking, and pedestrian safety along this portion of Chestnut Avenue which saw over 660 accidents in the period between 2012-2016.  It will also provide opportunities for good paying construction jobs for Vineland residents and beyond.”
