Van Drew Welcomes Conservative Absecon Councilman Steve Light to the Republican Party 

December 30, 2022 — United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew was among the first to welcome and congratulate Absecon City Councilman Steve Light on his decision to become a Republican heading into 2023. Light’s decision will give Republicans a 4-3 majority on the city council with two of the remaining three Democrat seats on the ballot this Fall. 

“Councilman Light and I have had a number of conversations over the last few years about how the Democrat party that once was, is no more and his increasing desire to join us in an Atlantic County Republican party that better reflects his Conservative values,” said United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew. “As I told the councilman this morning, becoming a Republican was one of the best decisions I ever made and I look forward to working with him and Absecon’s new Conservative majority to deliver an even safer and stronger community for its residents.”
