VAN DREW ISSUES STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT RULING IN FAVOR OF PRESIDENT BIDEN REPEALING REMAIN IN MEXICO POLICY

June 30, 2022 — Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to allow President Biden to end the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy created under former President Trump. This policy requires illegal migrants to stay in Mexico until their asylum cases are adjudicated. 

“While today’s Supreme Court ruling in favor of President Biden repealing the critical Trump-era ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy is troubling, it highlights the need for Congress to enact tougher border policies,” said Congressman Van Drew. “Our Border Patrol is already overwhelmed and under-resourced, and this ruling will only exacerbate the ongoing border crisis. This administration continues to advocate for illegal immigration by funding their travel and housing, and we have tragically seen individuals lose their lives attempting to cross the border. President Biden’s open-border policies are endangering lives and the repeal of ‘Remain in Mexico’ will only increase the number of migrants who travel to our southern border understanding they will face little to no resistance when illegally entering our country.”
