VAN DREW ISSUES STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BIDEN’S AIM TO INCREASE U.S. RELIANCE ON CHINA

June 8, 2022 — Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement following the Biden Administration’s indication that it is considering eliminating tariffs placed on China. 

“President Biden and his Administration continue to fail the American people by not holding the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable for its repeated lies to the United States and by forcing the United States to be reliant on China by failing to strengthen the American supply chain,” said Congressman Van Drew. “When President Trump was in office, he understood the importance of a strong supply chain and the adverse effects of being dependent on China, so he rightfully imposed strong tariffs. The Biden Administration should be expanding tariffs on Chinese goods, not eliminating them.” 

“Americans are feeling the effects of inflation every time they go to the gas pump or the grocery store because of Democrats excessive spending and their lack of incentivizing individuals to go back to work by continuing government handouts,” added Congressman Van Drew. “Lifting these tariffs will not solve the long-term effects of inflation; instead, it will put us back in a position where we are heavily reliant on China. China has failed time and time again to adhere to the conditions of trade agreements, so there is absolutely zero reason why the United States should be easing these burdens. We must hold China accountable, and we must stop succumbing to the wishes of the Chinese Communist Party.”
