VAN DREW CALLS FOR RESIGNATION OF HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY MAYORKAS DURING HOMELAND SECURITY HEARING
April 27, 2022 —
Congressman Van Drew, member of the Homeland Security Committee, called for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign during today’s hearing after his disastrous handling of our southern border.
Since President Biden took office, over 2.4 million illegal migrants have been encountered at our southern border. Last month, over 62,000 illegal migrants made their way past border patrol agents. Forty-two people on the terrorist watch-list have been apprehended at our southern border, and these are only the ones reported. Halfway into the fiscal year, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has arrested over 14,150 illegal migrants with criminal convictions and 321 are known gang members. Enough fentanyl has plagued our communities to kill over 2.4 billion people. In addition to these staggering statistics, the decision to rescind Title 42 will result in up to 18,000 illegal migrant encounters a day, according to CBP.
“During the Homeland Security hearing, after pointing out issue after issue that is taking place with our border crisis, I called on Secretary Mayorkas to resign,” said Congressman Van Drew. “Specifically, four immigration policies have contributed to the United States facing the worst border crisis in our nation’s history. The Administration halted border wall construction that was already funded by Congress, it eliminated the Remain in Mexico policy, it implemented “Catch and Release” which allowed for thousands upon thousands of illegal migrants to enter our country, and it cancelled asylum agreements with central American countries.
“I am disappointed, I am disgusted, and I am disturbed by his performance in his ‘attempt’ to handle the southern border. Secretary Mayorkas must take accountability for his failures and do the American people a favor and resign.”
