VAN DREW ISSUES STATEMENT FOLLOWING PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY’S ADDRESS TO CONGRESS

March 17, 2022 —

Congressman Van Drew issued a statement following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy address to Congress.

“Today, President Zelenskyy delivered a powerful speech to Congress, embodying true strength and leadership,” said Congressman Van Drew. “While I understand his plea for the United States to implement a no-fly zone, that should be a consideration of last resort if the conflict escalates even further. If the United States began shooting down Russian planes, that would without a doubt result in a world war and would put the United States in the middle of the largest war in Europe since WWII. However, we must provide Ukraine with military aid, humanitarian aid, and any other equipment and resources needed to fight against this Russian aggression.”

“Vladimir Putin is committing war crimes and must be tried and held accountable for the murders of innocent Ukrainian civilians and this attack on world order,” added Congressman Van Drew. “We need to send a strong message to Putin and continue implementing severe sanctions on Russia, crippling their economy further. The United States must provide Ukraine with MiG-29s from Poland, so they are able to reclaim their air space and fight back against indiscriminate bombings from the Russian airforce. This is a blatant attack on freedom, peace, and democracy. President Biden must step up and he must show the world that democracy will prevail, but also ensure that our military does not become involved in this conflict by placing their boots on the ground in Ukraine.”
